I am so grateful to have found something I am passionate about.  Glass grabs my attention, and holds it. To be able to express myself through glass has positively changed me and the way I view and live life. I feel extremely blessed that I was able to start working with glass at a young age. It’s hard to imagine where I would be without it!

While I had experimented with glass in school, through making mosaics, I had never really heard of glassblowing on a torch until I started lampworking in 2006, apprenticing under Amir. He showed me the basics, like how to make a mushroom bead, gave me all the tools and glass I needed, and taught me anything else I needed to know. I know, “lucky” right?

After experimenting with glass for a few months, I was offered the opportunity to attend and work at Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, WA. I re-stained Dale Chihuly’s wood cabin for a week, but I mostly worked in the kitchen along with other glass artists, and we cooked for the entire school. It was an awesome experience! In my free time I watched the master glass artists there sculpt, blow, and stretch the boundaries of glass. I left there inspired, and my mind was opened to the endless possibilities of this medium. I highly recommend Pilchuck to anyone with an interest in glassworking.

Glass flower and anemone pendants are definitely one of my favorite things to make. I love making all of our glass designs. I love the repetition of the work. I can let my mind can go to wherever it needs or wants to go. When I feel the stresses of life start to take hold, I know I have not been spending enough time on the torch.

Lampworking is challenging, it has taught me patience and perseverance. It is a way for me to spiritually release my energy and physically manipulate it in the flame.

Selling our glass on the internet has been a fun challenge. I especially enjoy sending our glass jewelry around the world. We dream of traveling with our glass, showing and selling it as we go...wherever we want!

When I am not working on the torch, making customer orders, taking pictures of our work, uploading new products onto our website and Etsy, shipping packages, or responding to customers online, I enjoy lots of other things! I love all different types of electronic music, hip hop, and reggae. I love unique clothing and boots a little too much. I like roughing up our Dog, Shadow. I’m interested in world history, culture, travel, camping and festivals, all types of art, and cooking a good meal. I recently started hula hooping but haven’t progressed much. It is hanging on my elliptical machine, where I also haven’t progressed much :)

I hope my glass can create a positive influence. When I look at my glass it makes me feel really happy and I hope others feels that when they see it and touch it.

I encourage everyone to find and pursue their passion and express themselves creatively.

Bless!

Allison
